- Panasonic Corp is studying further investments in battery production at its Gigafactory venture with Tesla Inc, the company said, responding to a media report that the two companies had frozen previous plans.
The paper said the companies had earlier planned to expand the plant’s capacity to the equivalent of 54 gigawatt hours a year by 2020, up from 35 GWh at present. “Watching the demand situation, Panasonic will study additional investments over 35GWh in collaboration with Tesla.”The two companies had not made public any detailed investment plans for the site, although Panasonic saidin July last year it would consider further investment in the Gigafactory if requested by the U.S. electric carmaker.
Tesla recently acquired Maxwell which is a battery company. Doesn’t anyone connect the basic dots. Tesla is moving away from the partnership with Panasonic because they are developing better batteries with Maxwell. Panasonic knows this, thus paused investment.
Elin needs all the help he can get. He is manic!

Economic downturn on Horizon..🤔
I don’t get it. Panasonic is worried about slowing Tesla sales right? But if they could make more and better batteries for electric vehicles wouldn’t cost go down allowing for a larger consumer market? Note- i know nothing about real economics so please don’t curb stop me
That’s cool but can I get one of these lol. I was attracted like a magnet when I seen this yesterday.
Actually Panasonic hasn't commented on this story, neither has Tesla.
