The Crockett Carquinez Fire Department evacuated part of the Port Costa town yard sale after a man discovered a live grenade in an old box that had been passed down to him.
Inside the box was a live grenade and a breaching round — a sort of shotgun designed to knock down doors, said Steve Trotter, public information officer for the Crockett-Carquinez Fire Department, whose officers were on scene in the coastal Contra Costa town.
The scene is now secure and roads have been reopened.
