If a new ruling coalition includes partners who push for nationalisation and new taxes, the business sector will withdraw from a successful partnership with government, warns BLSA CEO Busisiwe Mavuso.Mavuso blasted President Cyril Ramaphosa for signing NHI legislation into law ahead of the election.
Last year, more than 130 CEOs of SA's largest companies pledged their support for a business-led initiative to assist the government in fixing the country's energy, logistics, and security problems. Business has also been instrumental in securing a road map for freight and logistics, as well as a turnaround plan for Transnet.
"It's got absolutely nothing to do with the ANC. It's bigger than the ANC. This is about 62 million South Africans," she said. Coalitions have benefits, Mavuso told News24. A range of social interests is represented."It's not just one party thinking over issues. You benefit from having other people in the room, which will enhance the quality of public policies and maybe improve the quality of life."
Business is especially concerned that coalition talks could introduce a new level of national corruption, as parties exchange favours to secure power.
