Academic Staff Union of Universities,ASUU,has called on the federal government to immediately stop tax waiver being enjoyed by banks and private companies in the country, saying they were hiding under the guise of waiver not to pay education tax to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund.

The university lecturers’ body, which said the action of government was hindering the development of tertiary institutions, insisted that 3% accessible profits of financial institutions and companies must be paid for the nation’s tertiary institutions to function optimally.

He appealed to the National Assembly to stop the waiver through legislation so that higher institutions can have enough money to operate unhindered. “We, as ASUU, will like to be involved in this process continuously ,so that we see how we can correct this,”he said. He commended the committee for its diligent work in ensuring that proper remittances were made by the financial institutions and companies.
