Most of ACBT’s inventory was built in Europe, destined for the United States. Billions more dollars in investment would be needed to hit that goal.Shipping large components to the U.S. has been a challenge for a few reasons. A significant barrier is the Jones Act — a law requiring shipping between American ports to be done by American ships.

Novaporte vice-president of operations and corporate development Kathleen Yurchesyn: “There’s nowhere else on the East Coast of North America that is doing this on any kind of large forum, but the industry is demanding a port asset for this type of development. Novaporte and the Sydney harbour are suited for exactly that.
