JOHOR BARU: The Transport Ministry hopes that its extension of the operating agreement (OA) for Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to operate, manage and maintain airports throughout the country will allow private companies to play a bigger role in infrastructure investment.

Its minister Anthony Loke said that under the previous model, development allocation came under the government.

"The extension of the AO will allow private companies to invest in our facilities, including airport infrastructure. "It will allow investors to have more flexibility when investing in the airports here, while also lessening the burden of the government in terms of funding," he said at a press conference after attending the launch of FedEx Express Malaysia station here in Senai Thursday .
