Plans for a rival Christmas market at Manchester Cathedral have been thrown out by the council over public safety fears.
Mr Hilton, who has other past experience running pop-up events in the midlands and Trafford, added ‘public safety is a priority for us’. He was quizzed by councillors, cops, and licensing officers on how the event would be run — especially if a service vehicle, like a bin lorry, needed to access Cathedral Street during the event.
Coun John Flanagan, chairing the meeting replied: “We do have people who walk around the market and Showsec . In deciding the bid, councillors blocked the application which was submitted to test the waters of what could be permitted. Coun Flanagan said in summary: “It’s the decision of the panel to refuse the application and serve a counter-notice.”
