Pressed further on his comments, ruling out an opportunity for younger voters, who were not old enough to vote in the 2016 referendum, to have their say on the UK’s relationship with the EU, he replied: “It’s the nature of referendum and I completely understand why you feel strongly about it. He added: “But I would also say this, I voted to remain. I campaigned to remain. But what that referendum did was to throw politics into turmoil for three years between 2016 to 2019. Our parliament couldn’t get anything done.
