The proposed merger between Sainsbury's and Asda has been blocked by the UK's competition watchdog.
The CMA said it wanted to"protect the millions of people who shop at Sainsbury's and Asda every week".The supermarket's chief executive, Mike Coupe, said:"The CMA's conclusion that we would increase prices post-merger ignores the dynamic and highly competitive nature of the UK grocery market. The deal would have created the UK's biggest supermarket chain, accounting for £1 in every £3 spent on groceries.
But the CMA, which had previously raised concerns about the deal, said the merger would lessen competition at both a national and local level.
Was looking forward to going to Sadsburias. :(
But they were happy for Tesco to buy Bookers who supply alot of small indipendent stores!?
interesting.. climate for change isn't quite right at the moment. they will try again later
Great
Doesn't surprise me.
That will upset the shareholders. Good for customers though.
Katrina484568 Good no Walmart takeover !!
If prices went up then sales go down why would 2 proven businesses do that they would have to be competitive sure this is political
Sounds like a good decision.
This guy will be gutted...
Do nobody to fight the German pair then, let's hope sainsbury's and Asda's start shutting stores and putting 1000's out of work.
Surely the logic of this decision should lead to a forced split of Tesco into two competing supermarkets? Tescome and Tesgo anyone? Or how about Tessco and Claudiaco? It's early and I'm bored.....
Good news as prices would have gone up had Sainsbury’s got their way! Sainsbury’s = high prices but average quality at best
Sansa Bury just put you on her list 🤣
