Recognised as one of the iconic Anglo American buildings in Johannesburg’s CBD, 47 Main Street was officially handed over to Wits Business School on Friday.
The eight-floor, 15 000m² building will enable WBS to establish the “Wits Crucible”. The centre will provide business education and foster business development and growth services for youth and entrepreneurs in the Johannesburg CBD. During the handover ceremony, it was noted that the Wits Crucible will bridge academic learning and real-world entrepreneurship by offering comprehensive support through four key units for youth, student entrepreneurs, and Wits graduates. These include a development unit to equip aspiring entrepreneurs with skills for ideation, launch, and growth of businesses.The venture screening and selection unit will assess business ideas for innovation and digital integration feasibility.
The Seta has committed to donating approximately R84 million to the centre over several years.
