DENVER — Nearly one hundred supermarket grocery stores in Colorado have been identified by Kroger to be sold if a proposed merger is approved.
Kroger has identified 89 Safeway grocery stores and two Albertsons that would be divested in Colorado.across the country in an effort to ease concerns regulators have that a proposed $25-billon merger of Kroger and Albertsons would give the company too large of a share of the grocery business, hurting consumers and its employees.. Kroger has proposed the sale of 124 in Washington state and 101 supermarkets in Arizona.if Kroger's proposed merger with Albertsons is approved.
Weiser said the merger would violate head-to-head competition between the two grocery chains, consolidating an already heavily concentrated market. “Coloradans are concerned about undue consolidation and its harmful impacts on consumers, workers and suppliers,” Weiser said. “After 19 town halls across the state, I am convinced that Coloradans think this merger between the two supermarket chains would lead to stores closing, higher prices, fewer jobs, worse customer service and less resilient supply chains."
