10:07 AM CDT July 10, 2024across the country as part of a pending merger between Kroger and Albertsons has been released. It includes 579 store locations across 18 states and Washington, D.C.
If the supermarket chains' merger is approved by federal regulators, the stores will be divested to New Hampshire-based C&S Wholesale Grocers. Kroger and Albertsons announced their planned merger in October 2022. The companies said it's necessary so they can better compete with Walmart, Amazon and other big rivals.the $24.6 billion merger between the grocery giants, saying the lack of competition would lead to higher grocery prices and lower wages for workers. Oregon joined several states in a lawsuit over the merger.in an effort to quell the government's concerns about their proposed merger.
The list of stores that would be sold under this plan includes 124 stores in Washington, 101 in Arizona, 91 in Colorado, 63 in California, 62 in Oregon, 35 in Illinois, 28 in Texas, 18 in Alaska, 16 in Nevada, 10 in Idaho, 9 in New Mexico, 5 in Wyoming, 4 in Maryland, 4 in Utah, 3 in Virginia, 2 in Louisiana, 2 in Montana, 1 in Delaware and one in Washington, D.C. It also includes a dairy plant in Colorado and six distribution centers across four different states.
The list of stores include Safeway, Albertsons, Carrs, Eagle, Vons, Pavilions, Harris Teeter, Jewel-Osco, Marianos, QFC, Market Street, Tom Thumb, Randalls and Lucky Store.
