We want to encourage women to get out and speak to someone if you find yourself in that situation...

Movements against gender-based violence and femicide in the Northern Cape are concerned about the increasing number of women being murdered.

Non-profit organisations which include women’s organisations have expressed concern about the increase in the number of GBVF murders in the Province. GBVF activist Shaine Griqua says, “One of the biggest concerns is so many of these women are being killed in shacks, where they are beaten to a pulp and nobody reports these cases. Some of them are reported; some of them rely on their boyfriends because the boyfriend is working. They are unemployed, now they think: if I open a case what will happen? No bread, dololo. We need to raise our voices against these illnesses and evils in our communities.

Cayleene Petersen, from Cave of Adullam Ministries, says “As you can see there is only women, no men are really involved. It’s only a few youths. It is a serious concern the fact that people are not ready to hold hands with us so we can fight this thing called Gender-Based Violence.”
