National Dialogue

SDG has welcomed the call for a national dialogue made by several foundations

The Strategic Dialogue Group has welcomed the call for a national dialogue made by several foundations, including the Desmond and Leah Tutu Foundation, Steve Biko Foundation, Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, and Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Foundation. This follows President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement in his inaugural speech at the Union Buildings last month.

“We call on all South Africans to participate in the National Dialogue and to give their support to this Government of National Unity as it begins its work,” said Ramaphosa at the time – a call supported by the several foundations in the country. The SDG’s statement, released ahead of the president’s Opening of Parliament address on Thursday evening, reads, in part: “The outcomes of the 2024 national general election, coupled with the immediate socio-economic challenges confronting the nation are a significant concern and cannot go unscrutinised.”

It says only collaboration by the different sectors of society could craft a new and common vision to grow the changed South Africa.
