After five years of unprecedented growth Hobart's property boom is officially over, according to data released by Tasmania's peak real estate body.Median house prices are down 1.7 per centThe latest quarterly report by the Real Estate Institute of Tasmania shows median house prices are down, properties are taking longer to sell, and investors are turning to other states to buy.
"People are saying that the prices very high and they're not prepared to continue paying over-the-top prices for real estate across the state." Properties in both the south and north of the state are now also taking significantly longer to sell. "We have noticed a shift in investment activity in the state … prices have dropped quite significantly in other parts of Australia so investors are looking at options where they can get into those markets," he said.
