Applications for the 2025 academic year are open, with several major companies offering bursaries to new students.
Thus, several universities and third parties offer bursaries as financial awards to support a student’s academic pursuits, specifically those that show potential. Some companies also award bursaries that sometimes require students to “work back” the bursary by working at the company after graduation. This can be a win-win, as employers get the skills they need while students get a guaranteed job.
Those who cannot afford the fees to attend tertiary institutions and do not receive a bursary can still use the government-funded National Student Financial Aid Scheme programme. Students who qualify for South African Social Security Agency grants automatically qualify for NSFAS funding.
