The flexitarian revolution may be delayed

IT IS LESS ubiquitous than Airbnb and less hubristic than Uber. But Beyond Meat, which goes public on May 2nd, shares with those firms—and with many other tech outfits expected to list this year—a Californian address and a grand, disruptive ambition. In one sense, Beyond Meat is the boldest of the lot. Changing the way people book accommodation and cars seems trifling next to changing what they eat.

A powerful environmental case can be made for the stuff, argues Beyond Meat’s founder and boss, Ethan Brown. The livestock industry is a planetary thug. It is thought to account for about 15% of greenhouse-gas emissions, if you count the forests that are felled to create fields for growing animal feed, the methane in cow farts and the fuel that is burned moving everything around. Farm animals hog enormous amounts of land and pollute the water.

That shit is as processed as anything on earth - very unhealthy.

But resemble doesn't make it the real thing in terms of nutrients, okay..

I'm a veggie. Tried one in California yesterday. Absolutely dreadful.

Profit profit profit...greed greed greed. the more things change, the more they remain the same......ughhhh

They're pretty good but they're ludicrously expensive. Three or four times more than the already expensive vegetarian competitors.

I'm good. 😐

The burger is not bad if you put 2 inches of real bacon on it.

This gimmick is old news to Indians. In India we’ve been eating veggie burgers for centuries. We are happy that rest of the world is now imitating us. We welcome you. 🙏

It's that poo poo based meat ain't it?

This is how the zombie apocalypse starts. Plus real vegetarian would prefer vegetables.

They can shove it, that stuff is GMO derived feed for the cattle it's poison have real beef burger

It's a good effort. I hope they succeed. I eat meat, but I'm someone who is honestly trying to cut down. This would help.

Vegetarian food has always baffled me. Why try and create things that are just like meat for people who have chosen not to eat meat? Shouldn’t you just create nice vegetarian food?

they are fucking delicious for real

I cooked one of these on Sunday for my sister. She couldn't finish it because it was so bad. She then threw up about 45 minutes later. It was really funny for us but awful for her. Everyone else that enjoyed a beef hamburger was happy and calm. No vomiting for the meat eaters

...but are they keto?

I'd try them.

No.

You never see a steak made to look like broccoli for the extra appeal, do you...?
