Ramaphosa has defended the size of his executive and some of the functions under his office.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has defended the size of his executive and some of the functions that fall under his office. He was in the National Assembly replying to the debate on his budget vote speech.

Out of the 18 political parties represented in Parliament, at least 10 are part of the Government of National Unity. The President defends the size of the Executive, saying it would continue to be under review. Some parties bemoaned the placement of State-Owned Entities under the Presidency. Others wanted the Presidency to rather take on the water and crime issues, while some wanted fewer functions falling under this office.

Some parties raised concern over the lack of a committee with an oversight role over the Presidency. Ramaphosa says Parliament must give this matter consideration and determine the most appropriate way to fulfil its constitutional mandate.
