Residents and business owners are fighting to stop a “sex-on-premises” venue opening in inner Melbourne, citing community safety concerns and a negative impact on the area’s character. The area of South Melbourne known as the City Rd Wedge — a triangle of land bordered by City Rd, York St and Ferras St — is zoned as industrial land.

“If is established here would be very hard to get rid of and it will probably stagnate the opportunity for the landowners here to do something worthwhile with their land. “Particularly, you know, there’s lack of housing, so there’s opportunities for housing on this site.” Residents who live in the vicinity of 427 City Rd say they are worried about the potential safety issues. Angus Wallace said the building is just 48m from his 10-year-old daughter’s bedroom.
