Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson has described as unacceptable spending over R200-million on renovating a building which has remained unoccupied.
He was referring to the Telkom Towers in the Pretoria CBD which was procured in 2016 at a cost of R695-million to serve as the South African Police Service headquarters. On Thursday, Macpherson conducted an oversight inspection of what has been described as one of his department’s problematic facilities.
“It is simply unacceptable that for the past 8 years the building behind us and subsequent around us have been barely used and are vacant allowing them to be vandalised and occupied by criminal elements,” adds Macpherson.
