A report found alleged racist practices and abusive initiation practices.

The University Alumni Association of the Wilgenhof Residence at Stellenbosch says nothing will be achieved by closing the residence.

This as the deadline for parties to make submissions regarding the future of the Wilgenhof Residence at Stellenbosch University, has passed. A report found alleged racist practices and abusive initiation practices were conducted for first year students at the residence. The report commissioned by the University and accepted by the Rectorate, recommended that Wilgenhof be shut down.

The Wilgenhof Alumni Association however rejects the closure, saying it will have severe ramifications. Jaco Rabie is spokesperson for the Alumni Association, “Closure of the residence would run counter to the University’s own stated values and the vision that the University has for the future.
