A management company which runs Rawtenstall Market has rejected accusations of 'greed' or moves to monopolise drink sales in revamp plans, which could include food-and-drink stall changes and creating a central bar.

But hopefully their comments will raise awareness of their concerns at Rossendale Council.
"PLAY have done some good things, such as Foodie Fridays. But these Friday events were temporary cancelled with no discussion with traders. That cancellation has lasted for weeks, costing businesses. These managers are being paid to manage the market. Communication must be better. They represent Rossendale Council and are required to work to the same standards as council employees."
"The decision to put food traders inside was approved in 2022 after several trader and public consultations to ensure our facilities are fully utilised throughout the year. Since then, PLAY Market Management has introduced additional street food offerings and communicated these concept changes to each license holder before awarding them a site.
