The number of Americans who want to hear large businesses share their takes on pressing social issues has dropped, pollsters noted. The figure fell from 48% in 2022 to now 38% in 2024.
Democrats, a group that was previously most in favor of businesses speaking out on issues, has soured on the topic. Just 53% now say they are in favor, compared to 75% two years prior, according to the poll. Though many are opposed to businesses speaking on current event topics, a narrow majority of Americans said they would like to see more messaging related to climate change, mental health and diversity, equity and inclusion issues. Free speech and healthcare topics trailed slightly with 48% each.
