The old shop was replaced by a much larger store elsewhere in the town

A Nottinghamshire town's former Co-op store has gone on the market for £230,000 as shutters remain down on the site. The shop on Newcastle Street in Tuxford, near Retford, closed its doors shortly after a new Central Co-op opened in the town in July 2023.

Innes England are now marketing the old site for £230,000, with business rates of just over £5,000 also payable on the site. Describing the former shop, Innes England says: "The property comprises a single storey premises fronting Newcastle Street connected to a two‐storey building to the rear of the site via a ground floor extension.

"The property benefits from a suspended ceiling with inset lighting, electric roller shutter doors, tiled flooring and a service yard accessed via the side of the building." The estate agents say the planning consent on the site means potential uses could include a shop, restaurant, health centre or day nursery. The 2,000 square foot site is located next to the Tuxford Pharmacy and is being marketed on a freehold basis.

The new Central Co-op is located closer to the A1, with the larger store featuring 124 solar panels. Electric vehicle charging and delivery lockers are also among the features of the new site.
