Members hope that the approval of Alexandria's application could help give the town a further boost after a challenging few years.

Members of West Dunbartonshire Council’s infrastructure, regeneration and economic development committee last week put their support behind Alexandria’s BID - which traders hope can revitalise the Vale.

However with demolition works complete on the eyesore Mitchell Way ahead of the building of a new Lidl supermarket, hopes are high that a brighter future lies ahead.A Business Improvement District is a defined area where businesses come together and agree to invest in projects and services that they believe will improve the trading environment over and above those provided by statutory authorities.

Each business liable to contribute to the project is able to vote on whether or not the BID goes ahead. Backing the plans, Leven councillor Michelle McGinty said: “I would really welcome the support for this bid. Alexandria Traders have been doing a lot in the area and the relationship between Alexandria and the council is so much better than it was. There’s a real open communication between both.
