Bingham

The TV programme changed her life - but she can no longer watch it

While cookery fans are tuning into the celebrity version of MasterChef right now, former contestant Amy Vyse's focus is on opening her own bakery and patisserie. The mum-of-one is hoping to set up shop in Bingham later this year.

Freshly baked sourdough bread, pastries such as croissants and sausage rolls, and patisserie will be on sale to takeaway and eat in - plus a Mr Whippy machine for soft serve ice cream that her three-year-old daughter Luna is most excited about. "I think my main thing is going to be takeaway but I'm also going to offer little breakfast/brunch style plates that I'll change monthly. I really want to focus on using local fresh produce, I've got a really good relationship with Raw, the fruit and veg shop, and Clive Lancaster, the butcher."

"Everyone else got really lovely briefs like childhood sweets and what you'd take to a party or what you would cook for your loved ones, really nice things and I got a text message, yours is vegan. It wasn't even about the meat, for me it's butter, eggs and cheese, not being able to put those in a dish.

"I never intended having a career in cooking. Even during MasterChef filming, it was just a hobby. I was an estate agent, then I got pregnant and my boss put me on furlough. I was bored out of my mind, the first month and then when it kicked in that we were going to be in lockdown for some time, a friend reached out and said 'can you do a cook at home meal for my wife's 30th because I don't know what else to do?' He put up what I did on social media and it went from there.

The total has to be hit or Amy won't get a penny of the money pledged. "What is really good about Kickstarter is people give me money but I give them something back. The deadline, September 12, is Luna's birthday so it will work out either really well or really badly. We are nearly halfway.
