A robbery suspect from Middletown is now facing additional charges, including rape, after being shot by Northern Lancaster County Regional Police.

A robbery suspect from Middletown is now facing additional charges, including rape, after being shot by Northern Lancaster County Regional Police for allegedly breaking into a Manheim business, taking money, and sexually assaulting its employees.

The DA says Rivera had what appeared to be a gun in his hand as he fled from police, and that a preliminary review of the bodycam footage shows he refused to follow police commands to stop, with the apparent firearm in hand. That's when one officer fired his gun at Rivera, disabling him, according to the DA. Officers immediately secured the suspect, Rivera, and administered first aid, the DA said. Rivera was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment, and the officers were unharmed.

Upon further investigation, the victims told police that Rivera entered the business after hours, and pulled out the pellet gun, demanding money. The employee said she gave Rivera ten dollars from the register, but he demanded more. She handed over $800 from store proceeds, police say. Rivera then allegedly instructed both women to enter a massage room, while pointing the gun at them. He demanded they undress, then raped one and sexually assaulted the other, according to court documents.
