THE global maritime industry is grappling with a series of severe crises, ranging from an environmental disaster in the Red Sea to strategic shifts in US naval operations and cyber vulnerabilities.

On August 23, footage released by the Houthis showed the tanker exploding, with the fire continuing to burn and posing a severe environmental threat.

from AFPSatellite images from August 24 revealed a potential oil spill stretching over 2,000 km2. While the European Union's Operation Aspides has not confirmed leakage, the threat remains significant.
