He said that in the first eight months of this year, 1,346 investment scam cases, resulting in losses amounting to RM29.96 million, were linked to the use of Telegram. Ramli said the overall losses recorded from online investment scams were alarming, with RM483.95 million reported from January to August.

“The syndicates don’t target specific age groups, as anyone can fall victim to a love scam. For instance, in 2022, the highest number of victims were in the 21 to 30 age group, with 211 individuals. In 2023, police recorded 935 love scam cases involving RM43.9 million in losses, a rise from 792 cases and RM56.2 million in losses in 2022.
