SAIC's CEO described the motivation to support the school as arising partly from the heart and partly from the head.

Toni Townes-Whitley has seen her share of schools, so when she calls the Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering her favorite, that means something.

Townes-Whitley, the CEO of SAIC, a Fortune 500 company in the engineering, defense and IT sectors with about 2,600 workers in the Huntsville area, deepened the company’s commitment to the public magnet high school Thursday with a $100,000 contribution. During a tour of the Huntsville institution, she said its approach of integrating STEM into challenging coursework for students drawn from all over Alabama bodes well for the skilled workforce of the future.

“STEM can be narrowing if we only focus on STEM as a curriculum-based approach; this is an approach that creates Renaissance individuals and leaders who happen to be deeply, deeply talented in STEM, and that’s what I’m looking to hire into SAIC,” she said. For ATF’s new K-9 in Huntsville, solving crimes is a treatIf you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
