Pubs And Bars In Nottingham

The pub remains an option but is now by no means a certainty

Plans for a new Nottinghamshire pub are being reconsidered due to "nervousness" over whether the venue would be a success. Last year Ashfield District Council revealed plans to build a pub on Urban Road in Kirkby in Ashfield as part of a plan to regenerate the area, but a senior councillor has now said the authority is reviewing whether this would be a wise decision.

"We have had market interest for the pub so it is an option, but there is some nervousness due to the problems currently facing those sorts of businesses - some well-run pubs are doing well but others are struggling," the Ashfield Independents councillor, who is in charge of the district's regeneration, said."Properly run food pubs are still doing well, so it's all about finding the right tenant and the market for that.

"We are considering if a small residential or commercial project would make more sense." The redevelopment of the area will be one of 16 projects funded by the Government's Towns Fund, with Ashfield having been allocated £62.6 million by the previous Conservative administration.
