Simone Kruger, who is one of South Africa’s two gold medalists at the Paris Paralympic Games, arrived back from the French capital this afternoon. The 19-year-old discus thrower owns the full-house, the world record, world title, paralympic record and the paralympic gold medal and she has a bright future.
The pressure for Kruger was quite intense when she headed over to the Paralympics in Paris. This after her first Paralympics in Tokyo three years ago didn’t go her way. She only managed to finish in fifth position. But this year, she was determined to perform well and hoist the country’s flag sky-high.
Kruger’s classification comes as a result of a stroke she suffered while in the womb that left her with cerebral palsy. The front-left side of her brain was permanently damaged and all the muscles on the right-hand side of her body were damaged.
