The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration has requested the Public Service Commission to investigate the appointment of the head of the Gauteng health department, Arnold Malotana. The Democratic Alliance in Gauteng condemned Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko for allegedly refusing to provide Malotana’s qualifications.
“We received a formal complaint from a whistleblower who basically said to us, listen there are irregularities in the appointment of the head of health in Gauteng. It is quite clear from what the President has said and what Minister Buthelezi from public service administration, also what is contained in the agreement of the government of national unity that the professionalisation of the state is an absolute priority.
“One of the most important ways in which we are going to improve service delivery is to make sure that the public officials are merit-based appointment – people who are professionals, who have the necessary skills to deliver that service to the state,” adds De Villiers.
