Yesterday, the Hawks arrested 13 licensing officers and one driving school operator following allegations that a driving school owner colluded with licensing officers in issuing learners’ and drivers licenses to applicants without being tested in exchange for a hefty sum of money.
RTMC Spokesperson, Simon Zwane says, “All the suspects are going to face charges of fraud, corruption and the contravention of the Road Traffic Act. They will also be facing consequences departmentally where they stand to lose their employment. So there are two consequences – jail time because of the criminal prosecution and the loss of employment because of departmental disciplinary actions.
