Power utility Eskom says safety measures have been considered at Unit 1 of Koeberg's Nuclear plant

Eskom says Koeberg Nuclear Power Station’s Unit One reactor is currently being returned to service. The unit was shut down 8 days ago after it failed a routine test.

It says the shutdown coincided with its appeal to the National Nuclear Regulator against granting an extension of life for Unit One for an additional 20 years.Koeberg’s Unit One nuclear reactor was returned to service in November last year, following the longest outage in the power station’s history. This was in order to replace steam generators with the end goal of having the unit’s life extended by 20 years.
