The build of a large-scale lithium project in US is a step closer after a key environmental permitting milestone for the Rhyolite Ridge project in Nevada reached the final stages.Authorities have concluded the Ioneer-owned lithium-boron project will not pose a risk to wildlife or habitats.There is now a "statutory waiting period" to October 21 after which a "record of decision" can be issued.
A definitive feasibility study that is more than four years old estimated capex at US$785 million.Planned funding for the project includes US$490 million of conditional financing from Sibanye-Stillwater and a $700 million conditional loan from US Dept of Energy.Rhyolite Ridge has been pegged to produce more than 20,000t per annum of lithium carbonate and hydroxide , as well as about 174,000tpa of boric acid.Shares in Ioneer were up 5% to A19.
