Emergency personnel, humanitarian organisation Red Cross and disaster management are still on the ground on the N3 in Harrismith.“The South African Red Cross is currently providing aid to people that are stuck in the N3 between Harrismith and KZN. Our teams have been deployed since yesterday and Red Cross has activated also its partners which is soup kitchens.
Meanwhile, some motorists and trucks are still stuck on the N3 from uThukela and Harrismith between KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State as rescue and relief efforts continue after heavy snowfalls.Parts of the N3 have been re-opened to traffic this morning. However, Van Reenen’s Pass remains closed.A Johannesburg motorist says they’re continuing with their trip to their holiday destination.
“And then this morning we chose to leave to continue on our vacation. We headed out on the dirt road towards Mooi and we ended up getting stuck there with three other vehicles. I ended up being completely covered in mud. I’m half-dressed right now into something that I’ve changed into. We’re headed out to Midway and we’ve just washed up and we’re going to head on to our vacation hoping everything is good from there,” says the motorist.
