Minister Buthelezi seeks universal healthcare for all

Universal healthcare must be addressed alongside the socio-economic challenges the country is facing. This is according to the Minister of Public Service and Administration, Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi.

He was speaking during the opening ceremony of the annual symposium of the Government Employees Medical Scheme held in Cape Town. The theme of the symposium is “Innovate, integrate, accelerate: a universal health coverage commitment”. The time for universal healthcare must start to be a reality for all South Africans. And it must be accompanied by eradicating socio-economic barriers to achieving that, says Minister Buthelezi.

“The journey to UHC requires courage innovation and commitment to tackle inequalities that persisted too long. For the past 30 years, the divide in our health system is testimony to collective failure to create a SA that is equal for all.”“This bill is now law and brings us closer to a future with equal health care regardless of socio-economic status. However, the lack of understanding fueled much controversy.
