The KwaZulu-Natal Transport Department says it has put a team on standby to promptly remove snow before it accumulates on roads.has forecast extreme cold temperatures with the possibility of light snowfall in some parts of the province from today until Tuesday.
Last week, hundreds of road users were trapped in snow on the N3 at Van Reenen’s Pass between KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State. KwaZulu-Natal Transport Department spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya says, “We must hasten to point out that we regard the light snowfall as extremely dangerous and fatal. We state this because it greases up the roads, which leads to road accidents because the South African drivers are not trained to drive in snow. The MEC has urged motorists to reschedule or postponed their journeys in anticipation of any eventuality. He has reiterated our position that prevention is better than cure.
