Workers at pay-TV platform StarSat SA face an uncertain future after the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa seized broadcast equipment from the company’s premises in Midrand.

The search and seizure operation comes after ICASA issued a statement directing StarSat parent company, On Digital Media to wind up its affairs and cease providing broadcasting services by September 18. The directive was due to ODM’s failure to renew the individual broadcasting service license that was issued in 2008 for a 15-year period.

StarSat Marketing Manager Jan Hendrik Harmse, “We want our employees to still have a job. You know, these people are incredibly talented. They work very hard. It’s very difficult to find a job in the industry. So, we’re just going to try and do as much as we can to resolve this issue.
