But these farmers, along with more than 80 others at Pike Place Market do have the luxury of the Foundation backing them up.

The path from pee patch to Pike Place Market truly exists, but not without a lot of hard work and help along the way all in the face of a rapidly evolving landscape.

Farmer Ras started his business a dozen years ago, and his passion and dedication, carry him down a rocky path at times.“With small farmers, even anything from the weather to a broken tractor can set us back weeks, and unfortunately, with farming, you don’t have that luxury of time,” Chang chimed in.

“Every little bit helps. I know how it affects the people on the other act, like me, and I’m one of very many people affected,” he explained. He told KOMO News he is truly grateful for the foundation. “It was a little misleading because the holidays, amazing sales, so I kind of just took a leap of faith and just jumped in. I quit my job on New Year’s Eve,” said Farmer Ras. He told KOMO News that the job and the situation he left were great, but he just felt faith that he had to take that next step.

So, he connected with a non-profit and moved his growing to Kent, where he used a large greenhouse to increase his pepper production. This shift from herbs to peppers helped him focus on more scalable products. From Kent, he moved to the farmland he’s using right now, in Woodinville, right as the recovery from the pandemic started.
