Hundreds of workers affiliated to Congress of South African Trade Unions and its affiliate, the South African Commercial Catering and Allied Workers Union are marching to the Durban city hall.
Among the issues that have been raised are job losses, the country’s high unemployment rate, poverty and inequality.“I am not happy with our salaries and they are too small and too little. We cannot meet our demand. That is why you find that most of government employees are in debt because of that. We cannot buy even houses on our own and we cannot even buy cars.”
“We have to go to the loan sharks … I am foundation teacher but I am employed under grade R which means I earn half or not even half of the salary that is earned by other teachers. I have to do all the work that other teachers do.” Any cookies that may not be particularly necessary for the website to function and is used specifically to collect user personal data via analytics, ads, other embedded contents are termed as non-necessary cookies.
