The Congress of South African Trade Unions marked this year’s World Day for Decent Work by holding protest actions across the country, decrying the economic crisis characterised by high unemployment and the high cost of living.
COSATU’s National Day of Action against the high rate of unemployment, the high cost-of-living crisis, rising Eskom tariffs, and corruption saying these are making the lives of workers difficult. The federation is calling for an end to the moratorium on filling vacant positions in government. Some of problems caused by the high cost of living were also placed at the center to the federation’s demands
“Our fight at the moment is about the cutting of the 2 700 posts, that’s our biggest fight that we are having…that we are very serious in fighting for these posts,” says Kenny Williams from SADTU.
