Victoria Centre Market traders have described the situation at the historic site as "very odd" after Nottingham City Council confirmed its latest closure date. The Labour-led authority is set to close the market by March 31 next year, traders say, with many of the 30-or-so remaining businesses set to leave before that point.
September saw the most recent pledge for the market's future, when the council said it still intended to close the market and that traders who had not been paying rent would be asked to leave. The first businesses will start leaving at the end of October, with those remaining set to be in place until March.
"Some are going at the end of October, so they're not even being given a last chance at Christmas trade." Also set to leave is Nick Clark, from Cobblers and Keys, who has been operating from the Victoria Centre Market since 2016.
