A 45-year-old inventor has bought a sought-after beachfront property, vowing to clear it of debris and rogue four-wheel drivers. But Labor has threatened to compulsorily acquire the land and it's taking that position to an election.

Queensland Labor says it will use its compulsory acquisition powers to take Taylor Point if necessary.The Queensland government says it would go so far as compulsorily acquire a coastal headland it wants to make a public park.

Taylor Point, an 18-hectare beachfront property with wide coastal views in the marginal seat of Barron River, has beenAudrius Macernis, whose newly formed company has reached a deal to buy it, has, closing it off to four-wheel drives and declaring it "not for sale". It has put a $10 million commitment on the table to buy the property, which until recently was listed for sale at $8 million.The Liberal National Party made an election commitment to work with Cairns Regional Council to make Taylor Point a public conservation park earlier this year.
