Zithobeni residents have cancelled their march to the city centre.

The cancellation of the march follows an engagement between the residents and local police earlier today.

Yesterday, the outraged residents went from shop to shop removing snacks, before setting them alight. This comes after about 25 learners from the Mshuluzane Mayisela Primary School fell ill after allegedly consuming snacks they bought from street vendors outside the school. Community leader Johnson Shibambo says police must act swiftly to ensure that spaza shops only sell safe food products.

Shibambo says, “It is very bad, now we are trying to ask police about what is the way forward because yesterday we went and took out the chips from the shops. So now we want to know what is the way forward and what they are going to do about those warehouses that are making the Simba .
