President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed sadness at the passing of former Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana, who passed away this morning at the age of 72.
He continued to hold the post into Thabo Mbeki’s administration, Kgalema Motlanthe’s and later in Jacob Zuma’s administration until 2009. Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya has conveyed President Ramaphosa’s condolences to Mdladlana’s family and friends and hailed the late minister’s contribution to the country.
Prior to his political career, Mdladlana was a teacher, having served as a teacher at Vukukhanye Primary School in Gugulethu, outside of Cape Town between 1972 and 1981.Union leader, Zwelinzima Vavi described Mdladlana as a champion for the rights of workers and an untainted politician.
