The department’s spokesperson, Malibongwe Mtima says this is due to power outages due to localised flooding after torrential rains lashed the area.“The whole area is flooded, as such the entire Kariega has blacked out. We do not have electricity. Our guys are on site, the district director including the head of department to provide a solution to the problem we are facing currently.”
Several other areas in the metro are also without electricity including Motherwell, General Tyre, Ford, Struandale, Trident Steel, New Brighton, Seysi and the surrounding areas.
