The provincial Education Department today confirmed the suspension of the writing of a paper.

The provincial Education Department today confirmed the suspension of the writing of a Computer Assistant Technology paper for matric candidates in the Kariega area in Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality due to power outages and localised flooding after torrential rains in the area.

Basic Education National Spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga, “If you were to look at our timetable, the two subjects that were being written today, are actually catered for on the 28th of November for a re-write. But it all comes from experience, because these are practical subject that requires electricity, they require generators, they require reliable power supply.

Capa embarked on a site visit to various hospitals across the metro to assess the damage. She says at Dora Nginza and Uitenhage Provincial hospitals there was some flooding, as a result of leaking roofs, and the interruption of electric supply is also a challenge.“We are doing everything to deal with that; in Dora they have managed to suck the water. When I left Uitenhage we have appointed a service provider to do the sucking.
