The Basic Education Department says it is concerned about the learning time that some children have lost after ending up in hospital for suspected

Six children died in Naledi, Soweto after consuming snacks allegedly bought from a foreign-owned spaza shop. In recent weeks, there have been incidents of food poisoning not only in Gauteng, but Mpumalanga and Limpopo.The department’s spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga has urged parents to pay attention to what their children consume.

“We are urging parents, care givers and guardians to ensure that they talk to their children about the things they eat, where they buy it and the safety in particular. They need to try to eat from trusted sources because of the chaos that has been happening as a result of food poisoning incidents that have been reported in many parts of the country.
